Ausgezeichnet

Which stovetop espresso maker is the right one?
Choosing the right stovetop espresso maker mainly depends on the desired size, material, and type of stovetop. Depending on usage and personal preferences, different models may be suitable. A well-chosen espresso maker not only improves taste but also ensures convenient use in everyday life.
What size should you choose?
Stovetop espresso makers are usually specified in “cups.” These refer to small espresso cups, not large coffee mugs. Smaller models with around 240 or 360 ml are ideal for one to two people. Larger versions, such as 500 ml models, are especially practical when preparing several cups at once.
Stainless steel or glass carafe?
Stainless steel espresso makers are particularly durable, long-lasting, and neutral in taste. They are well suited for everyday use and are often compatible with all types of stovetops. Models with a glass carafe offer the added advantage of making the brewing process visible. They combine functionality with a modern design.
Is the espresso maker suitable for induction?
Many espresso makers are already suitable for induction. Alternatively, special induction adapters can be used to operate non-compatible models on induction cooktops.
What else should you consider?
Good build quality, a sturdy handle, and high-quality seals contribute to safe and long-lasting use. Spare parts such as gaskets or filters are also an important factor, as they can significantly extend the lifespan of the espresso maker.
Why does a stovetop espresso maker sometimes overflow or splatter?
If a stovetop espresso maker overflows or splatters, it is usually due to incorrect preparation or minor technical issues. In most cases, the problem can be resolved quickly. A properly used espresso maker works evenly and without excessive splattering.
Grind too fine
If the grind is too fine, the water cannot pass evenly through the coffee grounds. This creates excessive pressure, which can lead to uneven flow or splattering.
Coffee grounds packed too tightly
If the coffee is pressed firmly into the filter basket, it restricts water flow. This can also cause excessive pressure to build up.
Heat too high
If the heat is too high, pressure builds up very quickly and uncontrollably. This can cause the coffee to surge out suddenly and splatter.
Too much or too little water
The correct water level is essential. Too much water can disrupt the brewing process, while too little water leads to uneven pressure.
Dirty or damaged parts
Residue in the filter or a damaged gasket can affect the flow. Limescale buildup can also play a role.
How can this be avoided?
A medium grind size, loosely filled coffee, and moderate heat ensure an even result. The espresso maker should also be cleaned regularly and checked for intact seals. With proper use, the espresso maker operates smoothly and reliably—without overflowing or splattering.
Why does coffee from a stovetop espresso maker sometimes taste bitter or not optimal?
The taste of coffee from a stovetop espresso maker is strongly influenced by the preparation. Even small variations can significantly affect the result. Typical factors include grind size, heat, and the proper handling of the coffee grounds.
What is the right grind size?
A medium-fine grind is ideal for a stovetop espresso maker. It sits between filter coffee and classic espresso grind. If the grind is too fine, it can block the flow and make the coffee bitter, while a grind that is too coarse results in a weak flavor.
Should the coffee grounds be tamped?
No, the coffee grounds should be loosely filled into the filter basket and not pressed down. Tamping too firmly prevents even water flow.
What heat level is ideal?
Medium heat ensures a balanced result. Temperatures that are too high often lead to a bitter taste due to over-extraction.
When should the espresso maker be removed from the heat?
As soon as the characteristic bubbling sound begins, the espresso maker should be removed from the heat. This prevents the coffee from being overheated.
What other factors influence the taste?
Water quality, coffee freshness, and the cleanliness of the espresso maker also play an important role. Freshly ground coffee and a clean device ensure the best aroma.
