They fit comfortably in the hand and ensure precise cuts at the breakfast table, during a snack, or on a cheese platter. Bread and cheese knives functionally enhance any kitchen setup and are essential for everyday enjoyment.

Bread knife - Lived tradition

.

No other food has such a high symbolic significance as bread. Bread stands for humility and simple living. Not only in the Lord's Prayer, but in the entire Christian liturgy, bread plays a special role. A popular secular custom, on the other hand, is to give bread and salt when moving into a new house or at a wedding; here it is supposed to promise prosperity and happiness above all. Not only in Germany are there several hundred different types of bread. There is even talk of a German bread culture that is unique in the world. But even beyond the country's borders, the crispy baked good can appear in the most diverse variations. In German-speaking countries, the most popular variety is mixed bread made from a mixture of wheat and rye. In this country, it is mainly cut into slices, and a designated bread knife is the perfect kitchen utensil for this purpose.

The right bread knife

.

A crispy crust and a loose crumb, which must not be too dry under any circumstances, make a good bread. This is where the right tool is needed. Above all, it is important to have a long, strong blade with a serrated edge, so that the bread knife can be pulled through the entire length of the bread when portioning, i.e. when cutting off one or more slices, and so that multiple starts with the knife are avoided. For this would not only give very unevenly cut slices of bread, but would also unnecessarily squash the crumb. The blade should be made of stainless steel, so easy cleaning and a long life are guaranteed. A non-stick coating on both sides of the blade prevents the food from sticking and also makes it easier to work longer. A beautiful golden brown crispy crust makes any bread irresistibly appetizing. But it is precisely this crust or even rind that sometimes makes cutting quite difficult. There is easily a risk of injury here. Therefore, it is particularly important that the bread knife has a non-slip grip and accordingly lies securely in the hand.

For the perfect cut

Bread is one of the basic foodstuffs and it is impossible to imagine our daily life without it. The mixture of flour, salt, water and leavening agents such as natural sourdough give rise to a product that can look back on thousands of years of tradition. Many small artisan businesses maintain this tradition by consciously relying on original recipes and proven manufacturing processes. In addition to the basic ingredients, different flours from various grains such as rye, wheat or spelt, but also corn and oats can be combined to create different flavors. These are often supported by finely shredded vegetables such as carrot or zucchini or by admixtures of pumpkin or sunflower seeds. Various nuts, but also linseed, sesame and poppy seeds help the popular food to variations, so that it becomes almost unmanageable in its variety. It is here that the sharpness of the bread knife is important. The crust should be torn and not damaged unnecessarily. The serrated edge guides the bread knife straight through the material to be cut, so that even firmer components such as nuts or dried fruit are cut cleanly and you achieve an optimal result.
