All-purpose knife - cutting and much more

.

In the kitchen there is always something to cut. It already starts in the morning, when one wants fresh slices of sausage for his bread, the next needs fruit for the muesli cut small and the third still wants a piece of cake from last afternoon cut off. Later on, cheese, sausage and vegetables have to be portioned for snacks or packed provisions until all the hungry people have been taken care of. But there's no need to use five special knives, all of which are only used for a short time. This is where the all-purpose knife comes into its own, which is hardly afraid of any task. This way, you can do justice to all the tasks at hand without having to handle a variety of different utensils at the same time.

Peeling, dividing, portioning

.

The all-purpose knife also performs valuable services when preparing lunch. It portions the meat, cuts vegetables and brings the potatoes into the right size. Only for a few things you then perhaps prefer to reach for the bigger brother, the chef's knife, or one of the specialists, such as the filleting knife. After all, not one person can do everything all the time. And for some tasks, universal knives are not the best choice. But the all-purpose knife is probably the one that is used most often and thus lives up to its name. It is also used for dessert. Cutting fruit is one of its strengths, and for a nice fresh fruit salad it has to do quite a bit of work. Peach, grapes, pineapple and melon, apple, pear and banana, everything needs to be cut to the ideal size. And thanks to the high-quality all-purpose knife, the work is easily done by hand.

All-purpose knife in different sizes

.

So a general purpose knife belongs in every household. But it should already be one of excellent quality, given everything you do with it during the day. It starts with the material. Stainless steel is the most common, but ceramic is not a bad choice either. The utility knife, by the way, has another little brother, the office knife, also known to us as the kitchen knife. It has the same straight blade that tapers downward at the front, but at a maximum size of 9 cm, it is much smaller than the utility knife, which can get up to 15 cm. The kitchen knife is the knife of choice for smaller tasks, cutting herbs, smaller tomatoes or garlic cloves, and it's not too shabby for a hunting sausage. For larger vegetables or fruit, however, it's better to go back to the utility knife so that you don't constantly reach the end of the blade prematurely and have to start again. Universalist remains just universalist.
